Constipation

What is it and what does it look like?

Constipation is most likely to occur in a chinchilla that has been getting too many sweet treats, has a low quality diet, bad hay, or too much treatment for diarrhea. These poos are very small, hard, and dark brown.

Treatment

An easy way to treat this is, if it was too many treats, discontinue treats except for dried fruits and make sure they are not getting too many of the still allowed treat! If it was from bad hay, throw the hay away. If your chinchilla has been eating a low quality food, then its time to change your choice of pellet. If the culprit was too much treatment for diarrhea, this will normally clear itself up. Make sure you have plenty of water on hand!
